So how does the pendulum work?

If we look at the causes of the motion of the pendulum, we have to realise that it cannot move by itself. If you were to hang the pendulum on a fixed stand and wait – nothing would happen. Neither the internal energy of the pendulum material, nor the energy of an object brought close to it, cause any movement at all. Exceptions of course are strong magnets and artificially created electromagnetic fields.
There have been various attempts to explain scientifically why a pendulum swings. These explanations are very interesting, and here are some examples:
Breathing Every person breathes roughly 16 - 20 times a minute. The chest is constantly in rhythmical motion. This transfers via the arm and the pendulum chain into the dowsing body itself and starts this moving.
Emotional Arousal When we feel joy, fear, sorrow, euphoria this transfers into our breathing, our pulse and our blood pressure. This is supposed also to explain the various swings of the pendulum.
Unconscious Muscle Movement Even when our muscles are totally relaxed, they are still active to a scarcely noticeable degree. When we think that we are holding our hand perfectly still, this is still making minimal movements, which transfer into the pendulum and bring it into motion.
Assuming that these scientific explanations are all correct, then that means we have three different sources of impetus operating simultaneously on our pendulum. Consequently our pendulum ought to start swing wildly the moment it is picked up. Besides, this still does not explain why we receive answers that have a high element of truth or analytical value.
The following explanation seems to be the most meaningful and convincing:
Everyone has little groups of muscles in their fingertips that cannot be moved consciously or voluntarily. These little muscles are the mechanism that drives the pendulum. As we cannot influence this voluntarily, the motion arises unconsciously.

Predicting the Future with the Pendulum

It works! At the same time this statement must be modified a little. When you work with the pendulum and with the lower self, you have access to an enormous reserve of knowledge and information that are not directly accessible. Dowsing is about the IS state. That is extremely important! The pendulum always starts from the state of things NOW.
An everyday example:
You have a tin of fish in front of you and want to know if the fish is still all right to eat. The pendulum answers “No”. The question was about the IS state, the present. If you go on to ask whether you would be ill after eating the fish, the answer quite logically is “Yes”. You have asked a question about a future event which logically results from the present state of affairs. If you now ask the question whether you will eat the fish tomorrow, you have posed a totally meaningless question and you would get a corresponding answer. The nearer the future event is, and the more logical the causality between the IS state and the future event is, the more accurate the pendulum's prediction will be.
Through dowsing we access information which is inaccessible simply from our understanding, and furthermore the predictions can not be falsified through our wishes or fears.
